Poetry at the Center is an important program of The Cottage Retreat Center as it relates to the mission of the retreat center to nurture the whole person by providing events that relate to body, mind and spirit.  Offering poetry readings has the potential to bring healing and wholeness to all members of our community regardless of economic or social profiles.

Poetry allows both the explicit expression of one's inner feelings and perspectives as well as the implicit support of being given the full attention of one's peers.  This is how community develops and evolves, how bonds are formed, how intimacy occurs - how total strangers become friends.  Poetry can touch us in deep spiritual ways that lie beyond the reach of reasoning and intellect.  It is a medium through which souls can connect, and when souls connect-healing happens.
